Entain gifts $100,000 for US ethical, legal and compliance training

  • Entain Foundation US, a non-profit affiliate, has donated $100,000 to Seton Hall Law School
  • Gift extends ethics, legal and compliance training in booming online betting and gaming sectors
  • School expects to build related Bootcamp into annual showpiece industry event

Entain, which operates in the US through BetMGM, has donated $100,000 to the Seton Hall Law School in New Jersey to build out compliance-related industry training.

The cash will help the school to offer more high-quality and robust ethics, legal and compliance education for legal professionals in the US online sports betting and gaming sectors.

The first Seton Hall Gaming Law, Compliance and Integrity Bootcamp last year was a big hit, and the Entain donation will help build out the Bootcamp into the industry’s premier annual program. It is scheduled to run this September in Newark again.

US sports betting on hot streak

As sports betting online increases across the US, compliance and legal training is becoming ever more important. New York is the latest state now considering legalising sports betting online.

The September event will include international speakers discussing global and US-focused iGaming market insights and trends, legal structures that ensure integrity and protect players, and transparent compliance protocols.

It is though that Entain is the only operator supporting the education of legal, compliance and ethics professionals in this way.

Martin Lycka, the Senior Vice President for American Regulatory Affairs & Responsible Gambling, said: “The Bootcamp aligns with Entain’s focus on promoting sports integrity, responsible gambling and corporate compliance.

“We look forward to extending our partnership with Seton Hall Law School, a leading law school and a recognised global leader in compliance education, to help provide professionals with the specialist skill needed to support the growth of this sector in the US.”

‘Ensure gaming compliance’

Kathleen M. Boozang, Dean of Seton Hall Law, said: “This funding will guarantee the continued success of the Bootcamp and ensure the gaming compliance professionals have a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and the ability to identify, scrutinise, prevent and address unlawful or unethical behaviours.”

William J. Pascrell III, a trustee of the Entain Foundation US and a Seton Hall Law alumnus, is a big supporter of the growth of sports betting in the US. He said: “The industry is growing very rapidly and needs the support of top-quality legal and compliance professionals who understand the complexities of the regulatory landscape.

“This is a really exciting collaboration which seeks to do just that.”

The Entain US Foundation has recently pushed for further responsibility and player protection initiatives into the areas of video gaming and eSports.

This month, it forged a partnership with the Counter-Strike Professional Players’ Association, Kindbridge, Rise Above the Disorder, plus it extended its ties with EPIC Risk Management. This initiative helps provide mental health support services and education for players who may be at risk.
